As the director of construction services, John manages a team of construction observers, ensuring quality and accuracy in the implementation of the firm’s designs. His immense hands-on experience in plant varieties, construction details, project scheduling and estimating makes him an invaluable part of our clients’ experience with the firm. John is often in the field as an experienced construction supervisor for Hoerr Schaudt projects, attending to the detail for which the firm is known.

John Evans brings 20 years of experience in horticulture, beginning in high school when he worked at a garden center and design/build firm, followed by internships in college which took him from California to Nantucket. John received his Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Purdue University in 1994. Following graduation, he worked as a landscape construction foreman and estimator for Mariani Enterprises, Inc. in Lake Bluff, Illinois and went on to become director of construction for Mackey Landscapes, Inc. in Libertyville. John joined Hoerr Schaudt in 2002 as a project manager.

John’s current and recent work includes both large residential and commercial projects, including the City Garden in Garfield Park on Chicago’s Westside; the new, 7.5 acre Gardens at Ball Horticultural Company; the 10-acre campus for North Park University in Chicago; several campus landscape projects at Loyola University.
