Hoerr Schaudt has a long-standing commitment to linking education and practice. We believe the best way to prepare you for your future in landscape design and/or landscape construction is to expose you to a broad spectrum of office practices and procedures related to the profession. Opportunity #1: Design and Siteworks

Throughout the 9-week rotation between our Design and Siteworks studios, you will receive hands-on training and guidance in many areas, including:

• site visits + analysis
• planting design
• construction site observation
• design development
• design software
• presentation shadowing
• construction documents
• design review
• proposal development
• client meetings
• material specifications
• schematic design
• contractor meetings

Software application, including Excel, Word, Autocad, Adobe Suite, etc.

Opportunity #2: Siteworks with a focus on Construction Administration

Throughout the 9-week internship, you will receive hands-on training and guidance in many areas, including:

• site visits + analysis
• pre-construction analysis
• probable cost estimate development
• presentation shadowing
• construction document redlines
• material specifications
• pre-bid coordination and presentation
• bid document development
• bid comparison development
• bid award
• attend client meetings
• project management
• OAC meetings (Owner, Architect, Contractor)
• construction site observation and report development
• shop drawing review
• mockup coordination
• perform plant layouts (coordination w/ horticulture and design project managers)

Software application, including Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Autocad, Adobe Suite, etc.

Who You’ll Work With

Hoerr Schaudt is a team of landscape architects, urban designers, horticulturists, and dedicated interns who create innovative landscapes that delight on every scale - from intimate private gardens to vast public parks. Our devotion to craft and attention to detail help clients discover the unseen potential of their outdoor spaces.

We regularly collaborate with top architecture firms on urban public spaces, institutional campuses, private residences, commercial developments, and recreational destinations. We complement a solid foundation in design with innovative horticulture and particular attention to seasonality. Our team is comprised of 75+ professionals with expertise in landscape architecture, construction administration, construction management, horticulture, sustainability, and LEED requirements.

Our work is recognized frequently through press coverage, award recognition, requests for our designers to share their knowledge, and—most importantly—by the people who use and are inspired by the spaces we have created.

We’re excited about your interest in our Summer Internship Program! Please complete our standard application form and submit your resume and portfolio to be considered.

Interns are paid $20 per hour, with no benefits or paid time off. You will be responsible for finding and securing your own lodging. Hoerr Schaudt will provide a commuter stipend to/from the office or a parking pass.

Application Deadline: February 17, 2023

Internship Program: June 12, 2023 - August 11, 2023

Selection Process: Candidate reviews start after the application deadline of February 17, 2023. It takes 4-5 weeks to process the applications and review each portfolio. Those selected to continue the process will receive an email to schedule a phone interview with HR. A second interview will allow you to meet with some Hoerr Schaudt team members. The entire selection process can take up to ten weeks. All applicants will hear back from Hoerr Schaudt after that processing time.
