Experienced Landscape Designers – Kansas City

Hoerr Schaudt is seeking talented, motivated, and energetic individuals with 2 to 6 years’ experience to join our growing Kansas City studio.

We seek individuals with strong design and graphic skills who are enthusiastic about the design of the public realm. The ideal candidates should be efficient, well organized, detail-oriented, and interested in all aspects of the landscape architecture design profession. We value individuals who can iterate design ideas, think critically, and thrive in collaborative team environments. As an interdisciplinary practice that emphasizes horticulturally rich design across diverse project types and scales, the landscape architect/designer role involves collaboration with our planting design and construction administration studios. The position also includes exposure and coordination with design collaborators and subconsultants. We are looking for someone who is nimble, efficient, and adaptable to evolving efforts and changing priorities.

The successful candidate demonstrates ability to integrate design ideas and think critically; team collaboration - an interest in learning the craft of place-making; the development of construction documents and participation in construction administration. Demonstrated experience with site construction documentation is a plus. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Rhino is required, and experience with other 3D modeling software and associated plug-ins is welcomed. Consistent collaboration and communication within our team, across studios, and with design partners are essential aspects of this role. The candidate should proactively engage with mentors, conduct in-depth material and technical research, and excel in problem-solving; capable of both hand sketching and rendering and graphic communication. We are committed to diversity in every aspect of our work, and individuals from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Our Kansas City Studio is actively working on exciting large-scale civic projects across the country, such as the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Wichita’s Exploration Place Destination Playscape, and St. Louis’ Forest Park Steinberg Ice Rink Plaza and Pavilion. The 9-acre Atlanta Botanical Garden Expansion, connected to the Atlanta Beltline, features grand garden rooms terraced into the Piedmont landscape. The project includes spaces like a water labyrinth, amphitheater, walled display garden with a braided water channel, and a lower terraced water garden with planted islands. Wichita’s Exploration Place Park showcases ten distinct play areas celebrating regional ecologies and histories, including an Aviation Play Grove, Water Play Cascade, and a festival plaza with whirling jets carved into a prairie hillside.

If this exciting opportunity resonates with you, please reach out to us – we look forward to hearing from you.
