This past weekend, HSLA was the proud recipient of the Acanthus Award for Excellence in Landscape Design. The award, given by The Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA)’s Chicago Midwest Chapter recognizes the the landscape design for a Chicago private residence, which was a close collaboration with architects Booth Hansen. HSLA’s Nick Fobes and Simon Prunty attended the ceremony to accept the award alongside the best and brightest architects and designers in Chicago.

The project is exemplified by its strong utilization of axial views and cohesive indoor-outdoor connection. An expansive courtyard in the back of the house creates an urban oasis for the homeowners despite its busy urban setting. The overall effect is a carefully choreographed landscape, with guided views culminating in affirmations of order and tranquility.
