Maria grew up in California and in a small town in Jalisco, Mexico. Her interest in landscape architecture stems from her childhood days spent visiting her grandparents in the small rural town of La Vibora, Mexico. It was here where she spent time surrounded by mountains, seasonal waterfalls, and an array of vegetation and critters. Her fondest memories involve harvesting vegetables with her grandmother, going on long hikes with her grandfather, and exploring the landscapes surrounding her family’s little ranch. Working in landscape architecture today, she is passionate about making spaces for people to explore, learn from, and create their own memories.

Maria finds value in taking in bits and pieces of her surroundings and applying them to her design style and believes Chicago, with its diverse neighborhoods, is a great city to do so. In her spare time, she enjoys embroidering, salsa/bachata dancing, and karaoke.
