Monica Zimmerman
Intern

Monica is one of our 2022 summer interns who is currently pursuing her graduate degree in landscape architecture at the University of Illinois. An interest in urban farming and community gardens during her undergrad led her to learn about plant sciences and physiology, but it wasn’t until an internship at Midwest Groundcovers where she connected with working professionals who piqued her interest in pursuing landscape architecture. Monica is passionate about creating adaptive and resilient landscapes that work for people and the environment. She enjoys being hands-on outdoors, citing a plant install at Lurie Gardens and spring cleaning at a campus rain garden as a few of her favorite memories in the landscape realm so far.

In her free time, Monica enjoys hanging out with her friends, family, and six (yes, six) dogs in her immediate family. She dreams of the day when she can live and work in Europe for a few years and mentioned one of her favorite memories abroad was in Italy, where she learned how to make and enjoy “slow food” in a food and culture course.
