Rachel Smith
Designer II

Rachel knew she wanted a career that combined her passion for design, social justice, and environmental stewardship. After obtaining her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology from Kalamazoo College, she moved to Denver where she spent every free moment outdoors. Eventually she found the perfect route to merge all of her passions into one career and decided to pursue a Master of Landscape Architecture from Ohio State.

Rachel started out on the design team, though her desire to engage more directly with plants drew her over to the planting design team. Now, she spends her day solving her favorite puzzle: harmonizing seasonality, site conditions, and plant characteristics on every project.

Outside of work, she continues to spend as much time outdoors as possible, exploring Chicago by foot or bike.
