As a growing mid-sized landscape architecture services firm, we are looking for a detail-oriented, critical-thinking, and proactive Accountant II to join our team. This role supports the financial health of the firm by managing core accounting functions, billing, and reporting while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
Position Summary
The Accountant II is responsible for day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger maintenance, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role reports directly to the Director of Finance and works closely with the Controller, project managers and department leads to provide clear, accurate financial insights, ensure processes are followed correctly, and ensure smooth financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain, and report on account files to support accurate financial statements and business planning.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage and execute month-end close checklist duties.
- Create, review, and send client invoices monthly, working closely with Project Managers to ensure appropriate changes are incorporated before the bill is finalized
- Proactively follow up with clients on AR collections, with a focus on invoices outstanding 45-60+ days.
- Administer project dormant process to close inactive projects.
- Process and audit employee expense reports and company Ramp card submissions to ensure compliance with company policy, and accurate, timely input into our accounting software. Report on overhead spend and submission exceptions.
- Review and process Accounts Payable transactions in accordance with Firm policy and guidelines
- New vendor setup and 1099 reporting requirements.
- Reconcile daily banking transactions
- Monitor and track timesheet submissions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist with financial analysis and pull together ad hoc reports as needed.
- Build and maintain contract management within VP, ensuring process consistency
- Identify and recommend areas of improvement, and potential solutions
- Ad hoc reporting and additional duties as needed
- Ability to learn processes quickly, retain training, and operate independently while raising informed questions when appropriate.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 2-3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in professional services or project-based service firms
- Understanding of GAAP
- Proficiency with accounting systems (experience with Vantage Point or NetSuite a plus).
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLookups, Pivot Tables, and SUMIF formulas
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
- Process-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and continuous improvement
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

- Work Environment: Monday through Friday 8:30-5:30 with an hour for lunch/breaks.
