MCB Announces Award of Design Contracts for
Inner Harbor Public Space Redevelopment

Baltimore, MD – MCB today announced the next step in the reimagination of Harborplace. Gensler will lead the design team implementing the approved Harborplace Master Plan, joined by landscape architects Hoerr Schaudt of Chicago and Baltimore-based firms Floura Teeter and Mahan Rykiel Associates, STV, and the Whiting Turner Contracting Company.

These lead firms are supported by a base of local designers, engineers, and contractors.

The Harborplace Master Plan was overwhelmingly approved by Baltimore City voters last November with over 60% support; six percent more than the original Harborplace plan received in 1978. With this incredible support, the team is advancing the Master Plan vision to constructible drawings in collaboration with Baltimore City Agencies, the State of Maryland, and stakeholders in Downtown Baltimore and across the region.

“MCB is thrilled to have strong support of our vision for a new, inclusive, world-class Inner Harbor from the people of Baltimore,” said P. David Bramble, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of MCB Real Estate. “. Today’s announcement reflects our goal to marry world-class investment with homegrown talent to bring a new Harborplace for all.”

Gensler is a globally renowned architecture, design, and planning firm with strong roots in Baltimore. The firm will lead the reimagination of Harborplace by fusing ideas gleaned from the community with their global expertise in hospitality, mixed-use, and urban design.

"Gensler is honored to continue its work with the MCB team to revitalize Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The waterfront presents unique design opportunities for inclusivity and sustainability, and we look forward to working with this incredible team of creative firms to bring this vision for Harborplace to fruition," said Diane Hoskins, Global Co-Chair of Gensler.

“Harborplace’s catalytic impact will be transformational and will help reestablish the connection between our waterfront, our people, and our downtown,” said Vaki Mawema, Principal and Co-Managing Director of Gensler Baltimore. “The front porch of our city should be activated with safe, walkable public spaces, world class design, and brought to life by locals and visitors alike.”

“From the beginning, Peter and I wanted to ensure that the future of Harborplace represents to the world the very best that Baltimore has to offer” Mr. Bramble said. “I am thrilled to continue our partnership with Gensler, and couldn’t be more excited to welcome Hoerr Schaudt, Flaura Teeter, and Mahan Rykiel to this design partnership. By bringing new, internationally renowned talent to Baltimore in partnership with our local powerhouse team, we will once again make Harborplace and our Inner Harbor a worldwide attraction.”
