We’re so pleased to announce that the SandRidge Commons landscape design in Oklahoma City was commended by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Illinois Chapter with an Honor award this spring. In an earlier post about the design intent of this corporate landscape we explain the project’s approach to urban design. The new photos we’re posting today, by photographer Timothy Hursley, are courtesy of the project architect, Rogers Partners, and they give a wonderful new perspective on the site.

SandRidge is an urban corporate headquarters that prioritizes open space and is a model for how an urban corporate campus can use design to balance corporate identity with civic engagement. As a green link between two of downtown Oklahoma City’s primary civic and commercial streets, it is distinguished by openness to its downtown surroundings.

Its connective landscape balances a contemporary design aesthetic with an artful interpretation of the region’s landscape character. Extensive research into how the landscape could mitigate strong winds on the site led to creative topography and planting strategies.

The jury commented, “The response to environmental conditions and public access is excellent with good references to the region’s landscape character. Geometry distinguishes the courtyard; it is a welcoming, clean layout that ties the buildings together nicely.”
