Gina earned a BS in Horticulture and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois. During her time at university, her studies focused on plant communities, the human experience of both designed and wild landscapes, and the importance of plant collections as an avenue for education and preservation. Her early work as an environmental educator sparked a lasting interest in understanding how the experience of nature and landscape shapes attitudes around conservation, environment, and biodiversity. Gina has spent the past 18 years in the design-build industry on Chicago’s North Shore, contributing as designer, project team leader, estimator, installation manager, and client liaison. Her diverse experience allows her to anticipate how design decisions will influence the short- and long-term outcomes of a project.
Gina brings deep expertise in planting design, informed by her background in horticulture, ecology, and visual thinking. She is especially inspired by landscapes that mature into biodiverse, resilient, and dynamic environments, and is always excited to explore new plant varieties and combinations. Outside of work, she enjoys biking, camping, hiking, and kayaking. She is a dedicated volunteer guide with the Chicago-based nonprofit adventure and environmental stewardship organization Out Our Front Door; she can often be found exploring the trail systems around the city and throughout the lower Lake Michigan basin area on her bicycle.
