John Locke
Associate IV

From the open plains of western Nebraska to the peaks of Utah’s Wasatch Mountains where he spent his formative years hiking and camping, John Locke brings a unique perspective shaped by the diverse landscapes of his upbringing. His career spans a range of project types, from high-level municipal planning projects to intimate neighborhood parks, corporate campuses, and large wildlife crossings. Prior to joining Hoerr Schaudt, John led comprehensive planning efforts focused on pedestrian and cycling connectivity along the South Branch of the Chicago River and contributed to several ecological restoration projects in the Great Lakes region.

Working in the Design Studio III team, John’s approach centers on iterative design that uncovers and strengthens sense of place within complex systems, whether navigating urban environments or restoring native ecosystems. When not immersed in design work, John can be found on long walks exploring the city, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and diving into books about history, philosophy, and ecology.
