Michael's love for the great outdoors stems from childhood summers running around his grandparents' farms, and exploring nearby creeks and woodlands. As he got older, he found himself drawn to exploring the natural world further through camping, and eventually sketching, building, and learning how things are made. Today, he loves creating spaces that help improve people's everyday lives while weaving natural processes into his work.
Michael was also a gymnast for 13 years and competed at the college level, spending four years on the University of Nebraska's gymnastics team. Between his love for the outdoors and his athletic background, it should come as no surprise that outside of the office, Michael is happiest when he's active and outdoors: camping, gardening, hiking, or rock climbing. One of his most memorable trips as of late was a road trip with his wife to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. A week spent fishing, hiking, and cooking meals over the campfire – you can't beat that!
