A third-generation Chicagoan, Vanessa brings a creative, detail-oriented perspective shaped by her background in photography and the visual arts. After studying and working in Paris and New York, she returned to Chicago for graduate school and has remained rooted in the city ever since.
Her practice now includes printmaking in addition to documentary photography, she brings that same observational eye and thoughtfulness into her work. She has a longstanding connection to plants, first developed while working in her grandmother’s garden and continues to nurture a deep interest in gardening and plant care. She is currently exploring therapeutic horticulture as a future area of focus.
Outside of work, Vanessa enjoys cycling, hiking, swimming and taking road trips in search of vintage finds and obscure landmark. She is also actively involved in several Chicago-based organizations supporting housing access, reentry programs, and the arts.
