Continued Landscape Management (CLM) Assistant Project Manager - Chicago

We’re looking for an experienced, multifaceted individual who is passionate about horticulture and landscape management to join our team.  

The chosen candidate will have 3-5 years' experience in landscape construction and project management.

As an assistant project manager, you will work in a collaborative studio environment alongside our team of talented landscape architects and horticulturists. This role will require in-depth site and context analysis, detailed record keeping, strong client and contractor communications, compiling representative styling imagery for presentations,  and overseeing plant and site maintenance in commercial and residential gardens.

A successful candidate will be creative, curious, inspired by innovative design and passionate about the importance of upkeep and maintenance in landscape architecture.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, or related field from an accredited university
  • Strong knowledge of plant materials, their growth habits, and hands on landscape construction experience
  • High proficiency with Bluebeam, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Office 365
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites

  • Coordination with Summerfield Trading (subsidiary of Hoerr Schaudt) and contractors to source and deliver high quality plant material to our project sites
  • Assist with design and layout of garden enhancement projects
  • Assist with layout / installation of seasonal rotations in containers
  • Assist with layout of woody and herbaceous plant material, cutting gardens and vegetable gardens
  • Assist with summer and winter pruning services of woody landscape plants with landscape maintenance providers and internal team
  • Some travel is required, during workdays only. Midwest travel is mostly accomplished as (1) long daytrip. When traveling to east coast or west coast,
  • Typically 1-2 days away from home can be expected. Trips are planned min 2 weeks in advance and dates can be flexible to meet team members personal schedules.

Additional Information: 

  • Work Environment: Monday through Friday 8:30-5:30 with an hour for lunch/breaks.

  • Salary: Range is $70,000-85,000; the offer will be based on experience, skills and background in similar positions.

Physical requirements of the role: 

  • Lifting, Carrying and Moving: Frequent lifting, carrying and moving up to 20 lbs. or more of plant and landscape-related materials (pruning tools, spray paint, samples etc.) on site or to/from the site and in the office. Specifically, during layouts or pruning visits, occasional lifting, bending / reaching, carrying and moving can be large parts of the workday.
  • Mobility: Frequent visits to jobsites require being outdoors for extended periods from time-to-time in variable site conditions, and this position will require walking, hiking, kneeling and standing for extended periods of time during the day on varied terrain: dirt, rocks, concrete, grass, wet and dry surfaces, finished and unfinished landscapes and varied ground conditions.
  • Working conditions: Our clients’ projects are across the USA, and therefore this position requires the ability to work outdoors frequently at jobsites in all weather conditions and throughout all seasons: sun, rain, ice, snow, etc., depending on location.
  • Protective Gear: Requirement to wear clothing for the expected site and weather conditions, including protective clothing and hard-toed boots/shoes (where dictated)
